tournament Rules
General Rules
Modified IFGA Rules. This is a fun charity tournament.
All boats must check in with tournament control each morning before the start of fishing, and each afternoon upon returning from fishing. All boats must turn in their paperwork after each day of fishing to verify their catch/releases for the day
Shotgun Start and Stop fishing: 6:00 AM; Stop fishing: 3:00 PM all three days of tournament fishing
Official weigh-in/documentation: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM on all three days of fishing
Boats are encouraged to call in Hook-ups on the radio for any species targeted in any of the tournament divisions
There is a 50-mile radius limit from Maltapalo. (see attached map for tournament fishing area).
Fishing is prohibited within the confines of Corcovado State Park. If it is determined that you fished there, your entire catch will be disqualified for the day. (see attached map for tournament fishing area)
All rulings and final judgments are based on the discretion of the weighmaster and tournament officials. There are no disputes or protests of the judge’s rulings or the tournament director’s. $500 for a dispute must be paid to the tournament.
In the event of a tie in points by two or more teams, the tie breaker will be determined on the time of the first fish released for the total points. IE the team that released their last fish first.
Hook up and release rules
This is a catch-and-release tournament for all species except Dorado, Tuna, and Wahoo. There will be a weight class for these species.
All fish must be released in a healthy manner.
Only circle hooks will be allowed on live and dead bait, J hooks may be used on artificials as well as treble hooks on hard baits.
This is a fun tournament, and so it is a hook and hand tourney, meaning the mate or your buddies can hook a fish and pass it on. You can only pass the rod on one time.
We use the honor system during this tournament, so we do not require a video of released fish. However, we would still appreciate videos and photos for marketing and celebrating the catches. Except for Cubera Snapper and Roosterfish (see below).
All boats will be provided with a measuring tape, and we will need photos of the Roosterfish and Cubera being measured. (Make sure your date and time are correct).
If a fish is hooked up before stop fishing at 3:00 PM, the team can fight the fish until it’s either caught, released, or lost, so long as the vessel returns to the scales by the 5:00 PM. THE SCALES WILL BE CLOSED AT 5:00 PM.
Billfish:
Sailfish or Spearfish = 150 points
Stripe Marlin 200 Points
Blue or Black Marlin = 400 points
